International preliminary courses (German courses)

The international preliminary courses are aimed at young people and adults aged 17 and over who do not speak sufficient German to take part in lessons in a regular class.

Residence status is irrelevant for admission to a preparatory course.

Lessons are at least 12 hours per week and take place in the morning from 8.00 am to 1.00 pm or in the evening from 5.45 pm to 10.30 pm.

The aims of the international preliminary courses are

  • Focus on acquiring and expanding oral and written German language skills
  • Acquiring or refreshing English language skills
  • Learning technical language, e.g. in mathematics
  • Improving general education
  • Getting to know the German school system
  • Preparation for the transition to (evening) secondary school, college or (evening) grammar school

Prospective students can obtain more detailed information and advice during the weekly advisory session every Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 5.15 p.m. or by telephone appointment. Advice is provided by Vanessa Märte, who coordinates the international preliminary courses.

In cooperation with the Euregio VHS Gronau , we offer our students the opportunity to acquire officially recognized B1 or B2 certificates.
