Logo Fairtrade School

We are rightly proud of the title "Fairtrade School", which we were the first school in Gronau to be awarded in 2014. Driland Kolleg has been participating in the Fairtrade Schools campaign of the non-profit association Fairtrade Deutschland e.V. for ten years now and will be recertifying its status as a Fairtrade School for the fifth time in 2024.

As a Fairtrade School, we confirm our commitment to fair trade and make a contribution to improving the living and working conditions of disadvantaged farming and producing families in Africa, Asia and Latin America. In addition, our school is a member of the Zeltschulen e.V. association. Several times a year, in cooperation with the International Cooking Club, events are held in which fair trade products are used.

The proceeds from these campaigns will go to the Zeltschulen e.V. association, which enables refugee children and young people in refugee camps to receive education at least in temporary schools.

As a Fairtrade School, we have been committed to promoting fair trade at our school for ten years now. The sustainable school kiosk sells numerous fair trade products: Coffee, tea, cocoa, drinks, chocolate and also fairly traded bananas. The student company also provides fair trade catering for guests at our school. The graduation gifts (a cosmetics box, a chocolate and a rose) for graduates of our school are also fairly traded.

The Sustainable School Kiosk Student Company is made up of members of the Fair-AG and students from the evening secondary school who are studying economics. The theoretical foundations for running the school company are taught there, which are then put into practice by working at the sustainable school kiosk. Accordingly, fair trade is also a central topic in economics. Fair trade is also addressed in the subject of German at the evening secondary school, where students write sales pitches on fair trade products that are offered at the sustainable school kiosk. Fair trade is also a lesson plan in the upper secondary school. The subject is covered in geography and students also deal with criticism of fair trade.
